Katharine, a fan of the Internet mini-series LonelyGirl15, appears on the new episode “Truth or Dare” today. Now, if you aren’t up-to-date, there are a lot of clips to watch but this one pretty much stands on its own without any background.

You can watch the new video on the official LonelyGirl15 web site or on YouTube (where LG15 got started).

The people behind LonelyGirl15 have come clean.

A Message From The Creators

To Our Incredible Fans,

Thank you so much for enjoying our show so far. We are amazed by the overwhelmingly positive response to our videos; it has exceeded our wildest expectations. With your help we believe we are witnessing the birth of a new art form. Our intention from the outset has been to tell a story– A story that could only be told using the medium of video blogs and the distribution power of the internet. A story that is interactive and constantly evolving with the audience.

Right now, the biggest mystery of Lonelygirl15 is “who is she?” We think this is an oversimplification. Lonelygirl15 is a reflection of everyone. She is no more real or fictitious than the portions of our personalities that we choose to show (or hide) when we interact with the people around us. Regardless, there are deeper mysteries buried within the plot, dialogue, and background of the Lonelygirl15 videos, and many of our tireless and dedicated fans have unearthed some of these. There are many more to come.

To enhance the community experience of Lonelygirl15, which you have already helped to create, we are in the process of building a website centered around video and interactivity. This website will allow everyone to enjoy the full potential of this new medium. Unfortunately, we aren’t programmers. We are filmmakers. We are working furiously to complete the website, and hope to have it up and running shortly.

So, sit tight. You are the only reason for our success, and we appreciate your devotion. We want you to know that we aren’t a big corporation. We are just like you. A few people who love good stories. We hope that you will join us in the continuing story of Lonelygirl15, and help us usher in an era of interactive storytelling where the line between “fan” and “star” has been removed, and dedicated fans like yourselves are paid for their efforts. This is an incredible time for the creator inside all of us.

Thank you.

Okay, so I’ve written about this enough that it’s obvious I’ve been trying to figure out WHO is behind the videos and whether they are the fun videos of a group of kids or if there is a shadow corporation in the background trying to promote an agenda. Well, a few of us got together and did some solid research the other night. The results of that research are available here. Through some real investigative techniques, we managed to get within what we believe are a few miles of where LG15 and DanielBeast are operating their video productions.

The latest outdoor video includes shots of plants native ONLY to that area confirms our research and we can say with a very high degree of certainty that they are in the Mountain View/San Mateo are of California. San Mateo happens to be the headquarters of YouTube, so if there is a corporation that would gain from the popularity of the videos, can you hazard a guess which one?

At this point, I’m done researching, I think I’ve certainly come close enough to feel as though victory has been achieved. I’ll leave it up to the local media to knock on her door and get an interview!

Well, there seems to be a bunch of new discussion going on about our favorite LonelyGirl15 lately. While there is still rampant speculation about who she is, where she lives and how that all plays into her motives, Occam’s razor is starting to indicate that it is a few kids having a good time. While some of the details may be slightly adjusted and Bree may indeed be a character, it seems that the uproar that started last week is starting to fizzle out.

At this point, it really just appears to be a cute girl with a fun vlog that attracts a lot of viewers.

The fact that all this publicity is a huge benefit to YouTube is surely not indicative of any direct involvement by the young company, at least not that anyone has been able to determine with any certainty. So with that, I join the masses that anxiously wait the next installment from LG15.

That is unless I see her on DateLine, 60 Minutes or Nightline first!

Okay, so YouTube rules the new media, we got that right? And marketers have taken to the medium like flies to a pile of shit. I watch the site regularly for humor, and supposedly a glimpse into another reality. But the more I read about LonelyGirl15 and her friend DanielBeast, the more I come to realize it has probably all been a well scripted hoax.

The real article that broke it was found here.

The point that a domain was registered for the supposed fan site a month before the first video landed is a pretty freaking damn good spoiler. All the other evidence is really just supporting, this one takes the cake. I always thought the lighting was good. Now, she’s not using a “WebCam” she’s using a digital camera with a video function. I have one, it takes great video. In fact, better video than my Creative Voice I just got a few weeks ago. Color noise is not an issue compared to the high color noise in web cam videos using standard room lighting. Face it, she’s got some box lights in there to make her face clear.

Will this stop me from following to see where it ends up? Nope. We gotta find out who’s holding the bag now. The whole reference to occultism through the shrine to Aleister Crowley really changes the possible backers of this series. A later blog entry on the same site above really lends support that this was shot on the weekend to a worked up script based on the very anonymous responses mentioned in the later segments.

I have to admit this new medium really makes it easy for a good company to learn from the LG15 mistakes and come up with some really attractive content to market a product or service without the viewers realizing they’re being duped. At this point, I think LG15′s cover is blown.
